New Mold Slag Compositions for the Continuous Casting of Soft Steels

چکیده
Several fluorine-free mold slag compositions have already been established in the literature. In all cases, formation of a crystalline phase exhibiting behavior similar to that cuspidine is emphasized control horizontal heat transfer without influencing lubrication performance for casting peritectic steel grades. contrast, soft steels, glassy solidification required. Herein, different involving selected oxides are developed with help FactSage calculations. Mixtures pure raw materials melted at 1673 K and quenched 295 K. It observed B2O3 increases glass-forming ability slags. To obtain phase, composition must satisfy conditions CaO + MgO Al 2 O 3 SiO < 0.9 ( ) 30 wt % . For TiO2 content <10 wt%, detected after quenching room temperature. However, this phenomenon-is not slags >15 wt%. Moreover, addition alumina alkali enhances crystallization. Based on these findings, promising designed characterized laboratory using furnace crystallization test, mineralogical investigations, single/double hot thermocouple technique. From investigated mixtures, three suggested use continuous processes.

Modeling of Continuous-Casting Defects Related to Mold Fluid Flow
The quality of continuous-cast steel is greatly influenced by fluid flow in the mold, particularly at the meniscus. Recent examples of computational model applications at the University of Illinois are presented to investigate the formation of several different types of defects related to flow phenomena. The amount of gas injection into the tundish nozzle to avoid air aspiration is quantified b...
متن کاملHot Corrosion of Slag Line in Plaster of Tundish in Continuous Casting of Steel
Plasters are produced from a light refractory material, mainly MgO (M.P. 2800ºC), a binder, and a void forming substance for insulating purposes. Different oxides from the slag penetrate into these voi...
متن کاملInclusion Removal by Bubble Flotation in a Continuous Casting Mold
Fundamentally based computational models are developed and applied to quantify the removal of inclusions by bubbles during the continuous casting of steel. First, the attachment probability of inclusions on a bubble surface is investigated based on fundamental fluid flow simulations, incorporating the turbulent inclusion trajectory and sliding time of each individual inclusion along the bubble ...
متن کاملInterfacial Friction-Related Phenomena in Continuous Casting with Mold Slags
Many phenomena in continuous casting including the formation of surface defects are greatly affected by heat transfer in the mold. The interfacial slag layers between the solidifying steel shell and the mold wall dominates the resistance to heat removal and thus controls mold heat transfer. Surface defects, such as longitudinal cracks and star cracks have been associated with variation of slag ...
